The many faces of rain

It started with a light mist. Just enough to make you know that the clouds were out there.
Somewhere behind those clouds the sun was shining I just know it was but could I see it from where I was. No I could not.  I sat and watched the rain pick up and knew that soon I would be able to hear the tinkle of water in the downspout, outside the window of the room I was working in. I also knew it would bring on the inevitable groans and whimpers from all those out there who think rain is bothersome.  But… I like rain. I love the way it smells when it first arrives. I love the way it washes everything clean after it has been dry and dusty.  I love the Free Water that means I do not have to go outside and make sure my trees are getting enough during the fall and winter months. I love the way it brings people back inside to sip warm cider and hot cocoa and want to curl up with a good book.  I like how everything turns bright and green in anticipation of all that wonderful water.  I love running my tub full of the hot stuff and hiding from the cold stuff outside.  And if I get really lucky the rain does a bit of magic and while I am hiding in the hot stuff inside. The cold stuff turns colder and reveals itself as snow.  Now that is a good day.
